How to remove, prepare & ship your engine

Before shipping your engine you’ll need to be sure it’s relatively clean. Cleaning it with a wire brush is usually the best way. There is an additional charge for an engine that has caked on dirt that gets kicked up to the underside of the engine from the front wheel. Grease & oil is not so much an issue as is actual dirt, as I cannot put dirt into my parts washer. The charge is based on the amount of extra time required starting at $20. You’ll need to drain the oil from the engine before you ship it! Draining the engine oil is easier to do before the engine is removed from the frame. If the oil is not drained, it WILL leak out all over the packing materials & box. There will be a very angry delivery driver at my door & you will be hit with a Hazardous Materials charge. As well, I will have to spend time repackaging the engine as you did, as opposed to simply putting it back in the box it came from. I will have to charge you for this & this will not make either of us happy.
BE SURE THE OIL IS DRAINED!

The oil drain is the larger of the 2 bolts on the underside of the engine, directly in the center of the 2 case halves. It has a 17mm head on it. It IS NOT the 14mm diagonally mounted bolt that is off to the left side of the motor. Removing the 14mm is a waste of time, so don’t do it, however you must re-snug the 17mm bolt to prevent any oil leakage into the packing material. Be sure to remove your shift lever and kick-starter before you ship. It’s O K to remove the intake manifold, but be sure to ship it with the engine REGARDLESS OF THE MODEL. DO NOT USE PACKING PEANUTS to ship your motor. MOTORS SHIPPED IN BOXES WITH PEANUTS WILL BE RETURNED!! Crumpled newspapers work fine. Shipping your motor in a cardboard box within another cardboard box & some strategically placed cardboard and/or crumpled newspaper does just fine. If you are shipping the left side engine cover, be sure to remove it and pack it seperately with the engine, so as to avoid getting damaged (the tab at the rear of the cover is very fragile and often arrives broken).
