For several years now, i had this bike (my own personal bike & a complete restoration project) in various stages of assembly & disassembly with plans to sell it. I had a goal to sell it by March. In late February, i got an email out of the blue from Dave G. from Westchester , NY, a first time customer, who asked if i had any fully restored Honda CT70H bikes for sale.
I had been in the final stages of restoring the bike but was not really there. I told Dave that i could have one ready in a matter of days, described how thorough of a restoration it was & what i would be pricing the bike at. About a minute later, Dave emailed & said "I'm your man".
I was somewhat pensive, to be honest. I had heard talk like that before.
In emailing back & forth with Dave, i found that he had recently spent $4000.00 on 2 "restored" bikes. "Restored" is in quotes because that's how Dave described them. One was a CT70 & the other a Z50AK1. These were done by an auto body guy who knew how to paint, but was very far from a specialist in Honda mini trails. Only one bike actually ran & it smoked like a bus. The other didn't even run. Part of the deal was that Dave had me go through each of the other bikes to get them in top shape so he could at least ride them. I agreed.
I informed Dave that the bike for sale was done & the next morning he came down to my place, took one look at the bike & said "Well look at that. A work of art."
He then placed a wad of cash in my hand before i could even show him any details.
Upon seeing his other bike that he needed me to go through, i understood why Dave was so set to buy my bike. It was clear he had been jerked around & sold bikes that were not up to his expectations & just wanted the genuine article. Dave is a man that knows what he wants & understands what quality costs. That is a rare quality today & I commend him for that. It was a smooth transaction that i wish i had more of.
Congrats to Dave G. for knowing what he wants & understanding what it takes to restore one of these bikes to a very high degree of quality.
